About the Position

We are seeking qualified and motivated Optometrists for an anticipated project that aims to improve equitable access to quality eye screening, refraction, spectacles and referral services for children aged 5–18 years in selected districts of Punjab. Working with project teams, health facilities, schools and communities, the Optometrist will conduct eye screening, refraction, advise of spectacles, follow up and reporting of eye screening. 

Qualification & Experience

• BS/BSc (Hons.) in Optometry, Vision Sciences or an equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
• At least two years of relevant post-qualification experience in clinical, school-based or community eye health services.
• Demonstrated competence in visual acuity assessment, objective and subjective refraction, spectacle prescription, basic ocular assessment and identification of conditions requiring referral.
• Experience working with children and communicating clearly with children, parents/caregivers, teachers and health personnel.
• Ability to maintain high-quality records and use paper-based and digital data collection tools; basic proficiency in Microsoft Office is desirable.
• Strong interpersonal, teamwork, planning and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently in field settings.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively within the assigned district and, when required, to nearby project locations.
• Previous experience in school eye health, public-sector service delivery and donor-funded programmes will be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct standardized, child-friendly vision screening and eye assessment activities in communities, schools and designated public health facilities in accordance with approved project protocols.
• Perform visual acuity testing, objective and subjective refraction, basic ocular assessment and other procedures within the authorised scope of practice.
• Identify children requiring spectacles; prepare accurate prescriptions; support frame selection, fitting, dispensing and quality checks; and provide counselling on spectacle use and care.
• Identify suspected eye conditions or other concerns requiring further assessment and arrange timely referral to designated facilities using agreed referral pathways.
• Follow up spectacle and referral cases with children, parents/caregivers, schools, community mobilizers and health facilities to support service uptake and continuity of care.
• Ensure reasonable accommodation, respectful communication with targeted population. 
• Provide age-appropriate eye health information to children, parents/caregivers and teachers, including advice on spectacle compliance, follow-up and referral completion.
• Maintain complete, and accurate individual and activity records; conduct routine data checks; and submit timely reports against agreed indicators and targets.
• Safeguard equipment, spectacles, consumables and records; maintain basic stock and equipment logs.
• Coordinate daily field activities with project staff, school management, district and health authorities, community representatives and referral facilities.
• Participate in orientation, supportive supervision, quality-assurance reviews and refresher training, and implement agreed corrective actions.
• Perform other duties reasonably assigned to support achievement of project results.
