1. Position Summary:
The Education Facilitator / Teacher will provide in-house education, structured learning support, and psychosocially informed teaching to children and young women residing at the Mera Ghar Shelter.
Due to the sensitive protection cases and restricted mobility of the residents, the role focuses on short-term, functional, and foundational learning, tailored to diverse backgrounds including Pakistani, Afghan, and Somali beneficiaries.
The Teacher will implement the Accelerated Learning Programme (ALP – Package A), deliver basic literacy and numeracy, provide functional English instruction, and conduct play-based early learning activities. The position also integrates MHPSS-informed activities to promote emotional well‑being, positive social behavior, and structured daily routines.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Educational Instruction
- Deliver ALP Package A to children with interrupted or limited schooling.
- Teach basic literacy and numeracy in Urdu and English.
- Provide basic mathematics appropriate to age and learning levels.
- Deliver functional English language skills to support communication and possible resettlement abroad.
- Adapt lesson plans according to learners’ diverse linguistic and educational backgrounds.
- Facilitate play-based learning activities for young children.
- Support early literacy, counting, colors, shapes, and social skills.
- Conduct creative learning sessions such as drawing, storytelling, rhymes, games, and puzzles.
- Reduce behavioral conflicts through structured and engaging routines.
- Conduct functional literacy sessions for adolescent girls and young women.
- Strengthen basic reading, writing, numeracy, and communication abilities.
- Introduce life skills, basic problem-solving, confidence-building activities, and practical learning relevant for daily life and reintegration.
- Integrate MHPSS elements into learning sessions (group activities, discussions, recreational exercises).
- Promote positive behavior, emotional expression, and social interaction.
- Create a safe, supportive, respectful, and culturally sensitive learning environment.
- Identify students needing additional psychosocial support and refer to relevant staff.
- Establish and maintain a consistent daily schedule including:
- Learning sessions
- Play-based activities
- Recreational time
- Psychosocial support elements
- Encourage social cohesion, respect, and conflict resolution among children.
- Ensure learning spaces are child-friendly, safe, and inclusive.
F. Monitoring & Reporting
- Maintain attendance sheets and individual learning progress notes.
- Track student engagement and learning outcomes through simple assessments.
- Provide regular updates to the Shelter Manager / Education Coordinator.
- Support documentation for donor reporting and program monitoring.
- Bachelor’s degree in education, Social Sciences, Psychology, or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of teaching or education facilitation experience.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations, refugees, women, or children in humanitarian settings is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with Non-Formal Education (NFE) or ALP approaches is an advantage.
- Strong teaching, facilitation, and classroom management skills.
- Ability to deliver play-based and non-formal education.
- Basic understanding of ALP, NFE, MHPSS, and child protection principles.
- Strong communication in Urdu and basic English; Pashto/Dari is an asset.
- Cultural sensitivity when working with Pakistani, Afghan, and Somali residents.
- Patience, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt teaching to short-term and diverse learning needs.

6. Working Conditions
- The teacher will work within the shelter premises due to protection and security protocols.
- Must adhere to confidentiality, safeguarding, and gender‑sensitive practices.
