Position Title: Legal Intern

Location of Workstation: Karachi (with field visits within Karachi and Hyderabad as required)
Type of Job: Internship (3 Months)


POSITION SUMMARY

The Legal Intern will support the implementation of the project Strengthening State’s Response to Sexual Violence, Child Marriages, and Domestic Violence through legal research, legislative review, advocacy support, documentation, and data management. The position offers practical exposure to public interest law, legislative advocacy, and multi-stakeholder engagement within a programme environment focused on gender-based violence and access to justice.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Legal Research and Legislative Review

a. Review and summarize legislation relevant to the project, including laws relating to child marriage, domestic violence, medico-legal services, and sexual violence
b. Support the drafting and review of legislative amendments, rules, and legal frameworks
c. Conduct legal research on survivor protection measures and criminal justice procedures
d. Review project documents, SOPs, proposals, and training materials for legal accuracy and consistency
e. Support legal and policy reviews to inform advocacy initiatives

2. Advocacy and Stakeholder Support

a. Prepare briefing notes, background papers, and advocacy materials for meetings with government stakeholders
b. Draft official correspondence, follow-up communications, and meeting requests
c. Maintain records and trackers for government correspondence and stakeholder engagement
d. Deliver official correspondence to relevant departments and follow up on pending responses where required
e. Attend meetings, consultations, and policy dialogues and assist with minutes and documentation

3. Data Entry and Documentation

a. Support data entry, cleaning, validation, and organization of project-related data
b. Maintain accurate records of legal documents, correspondence, meeting minutes, and programme files
c. Assist with document archiving and information management processes

4. Programme Support

a. Provide logistical and administrative support for meetings, consultations, workshops, and launch events
b. Assist with participant registration, documentation, and event coordination activities
c. Support programme staff with other project-related assignments as required


REQUIREMENTS AND CORE COMPETENCIES

Education

a. Currently enrolled in the 3rd year of an LL.B. programme at a recognized Pakistani university and entering the 4th year in September 2026

Knowledge and Experience

a. Demonstrated interest in public interest law, gender justice, human rights, or gender-based violence issues
b. Familiarity with Pakistani family law, criminal law, and GBV-related legislation will be an asset
c. Previous internship, volunteer, or academic experience in legal research will be preferred

Technical Skills

a. Strong legal research and legal writing skills in English
b. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
c. Ability to organize, manage, and maintain documentation accurately

b. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
c. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and multi-stakeholder environment
d. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
e. Willingness to undertake field visits within Karachi and Hyderabad as required

By the end of the internship, the Legal Intern will have gained:

a. Practical experience in legal research and legislative advocacy related to gender-based violence and access to justice
b. Exposure to coordination with government departments, development partners, and civil society organizations
c. Experience in drafting legal, policy, and advocacy documents in a professional environment
d. Understanding of the relationship between legal frameworks and programme implementation
