Job Description:

Organizational Context and Scope:

Under the overall supervision of the Programme Coordinator (Protection) and the direct supervision of the Programme Officer (GBV), the Child Protection Case Worker will be responsible for supporting vulnerable children and families through provision of child protection case management services as part of IOM’s emergency response to the Afghanistan crisis in Pakistan .

Responsibilities and Accountabilities :

The Child Protection Case Worker will ensure appropriate support for children through the following areas of responsibilities.

Undertake regular protection monitoring and safety audit visits to IOM accommodations where Afghans are residing, and other places where migrants, and vulnerable host communities may reside, and prepare protection assessment reports;
Support child protection activities within the Protection Unit;
Carry out Best Interest Determination (BID) and Best Interest Assessment (BIA) and prepare reports;
Conduct vulnerability assessments of unaccompanied and/or separated children (UASC) to help identify child protection risks, urgent needs and possible solutions for children;
Conduct follow-up and monitoring visits based on identified needs;
Conduct safe referrals of cases to internally or to relevant partner organizations and international organizations for appropriate follow-up and/or to other units within IOM for their respective follow-up;
Participate in and support awareness raising events on child protection and other relevant topics and support IOM in trainings and workshops;
Assist in the maintenance of all child protection-related case-management records and files ensuring confidentiality and IOM data protection policies;
Support in programme monitoring and child protection mainstreaming activities, as requested;
Report any violation of the child safeguarding policy and PSEA of IOM;
Assisting with other tasks, as needed.

Required Qualifications and Experience :

Education :

Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, Development Studies, Social Work, Human Rights, International Relations or Law, or other related field from an accredited academic institution with three years of relevant professional experience.
High School Degree/Certificate in above mentioned related field with Five years of relevant professional experience.

Experience :

Experience working on child protection case management as well as other relevant thematic areas, such as general protection, gender-based violence (GBV) or counter-trafficking (CT), including working in direct contact with beneficiaries.

Good experience in providing trainings and capacity building opportunities on child protection to various target groups.
Understanding of the protection sector in Pakistan, and existing referral pathways, and demonstrated knowledge of principles applying to safe referrals.
Understanding of critical issues around informed consent and data protection principles.
Advanced computer skills and literacy (MS Word, Power Point) and proficiency in Excel.
Knowledge of the Afghanistan crisis in Pakistan and understanding of issues related to Afghan migrants and host communities in Pakistan.

Skills :

Knowledge of the broad range of migration related subject areas dealt with by the Organization.

Languages :

Required :

Fluency in English and Urdu is required (oral and written).

Desirable :

Working knowledge of Pashtu and/or Dari.
