About the Assignment

1.          Background

Pakistan is one of the most vulnerable countries to the adverse effects of climate change, having experienced one of the worst floods in its history in 2022. This disaster affected approximately 33 million people, damaging or destroying over 2.1 million homes and displacing nearly 8 million individuals. The floods resulted in significant economic losses, estimated at $15.2 billion, and severely impacted agriculture, with 15% of the rice crop and 40% of the cotton crop affected.

Unfortunately, appropriate budgeting for climate change mitigation has never been a priority for the government. Climate-related funding is often scattered across various budgets, such as those for the environment and energy.
