Overview: 

Jhpiego is an international non-profit health organization affiliated with The Johns Hopkins University, USA. For more than 50 years and in over 150 countries, Jhpiego has worked to prevent the needless deaths of women and their families. Jhpiego is dedicated to improving the health of women and families in developing countries.

Under funding from Gavi, the vaccine alliance, Jhpiego is implementing the “Demand, Communities, and Gender: Engaging men as caregivers and supporting successful parenting towards improved immunization outcomes and equitable health services” (“Men’s engagement in immunization”) project in collaboration with ministries of health and other stakeholders in Pakistan. 

The project goal is to contribute towards Gavi gender strategy for “increasing understanding of programmatic interventions that overcome gender-related barriers, specifically engaging male caregivers and supporting successful parenting towards improved immunization outcomes and more equitable health services.”

Purpose:

Jhpiego seeks to hire Qualitative Research consultant, based in Islamabad to bolster program implementation efforts. The incumbent will facilitate notetaking, translation and transcription during Endline data collection and FGDS with caregivers, support in categorizing qualitative data into themes and initial analysis of qualitative data in disseminate lessons learned and document best practices amidst the pandemic. The spearhead will help in the development of a comprehensive report outlining pandemic-related insights and future strategies.

Description Of Objectives:

  The Qualitative Research Assistant will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Attend and take detailed notes during interviews, focus group discussions, and other qualitative data collection activities; assist in conducting interviews as needed.
  • Translate interviews and focus group discussions from Urdu to English (and vice versa, if required).
  • Transcribe audio recordings accurately, ensuring that the transcriptions are clear, complete, and true to the original content.
  • Assist in coding and categorizing qualitative data into themes and sub-themes. Participate in the initial analysis of qualitative data.
  • Ensure proper storage and organization of all qualitative data, including interview notes, transcripts, and coded themes.
  • Contribute to the preparation of research reports, presentations, and publications as needed.
  • Work closely with the DMO to ensure that all qualitative research activities are aligned with the overall project objectives.
  • Ensure the pace and quality of project activities and provide updates to project team on timely basis.
  • Support team in the coordination of training sessions, couples’ discussion group sessions, meetings, and other project related activities in the targeted districts
  • Monitor data collection activity at district level.
  • Conduct Most Significant Change (MSC) sessions and prepare detailed notes.
  • Conducting qualitative interviews as part of endline assessments
  • Working closely with data enumerators to plan field and overall support in data collection.
  • Working closely with DMO in data cleaning and analysis.
  • Communicate regularly with the supervisor to provide updates on progress and seek guidance when necessary.
  • Any other Task assign by supervisor.

Selection Of Criteria:

  • A university degree in Social Sciences, Public Health, Anthropology, or a related field.
  • 2 to 4 years of experience in qualitative research, particularly in notetaking, transcription, translation, and thematic analysis.
  • Experience in conducting literature reviews and summarizing findings
  • Strong understanding of qualitative research methods and tools.
  • Proficiency in Urdu and English (both written and spoken).
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to maintain high standards of accuracy.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to travel to the project districts.

Level of Efforts (LOE):

The nature of consultancy will be activity/task based and will be completed in 3 months of period.(20May-30th July 2025)

Payment Schedule:

Mode of payment is on Monthly basis.

Duty Station: In-Office Islamabad

Reporting Line: The consultant will report to the Technical Advisor, Gender and Research , working closely teams (DMO, PPO PO) and Jhpiego’s technical staff

Project: Engaging men as caregivers and supporting successful parenting towards improved immunization outcomes and equitable health services
