Job Purpose:

The Field Engineer – WASH is responsible for the design, implementation, supervision, and quality assurance of WASH infrastructure activities including water supply systems, sanitation facilities, and hygiene promotion structures in line with humanitarian and technical standards. The role involves close coordination with local communities, authorities, and partners to ensure effective and sustainable WASH interventions.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide technical leadership and support including reviews & technical design evaluation in project target schools’ WASH infrastructure schemes.
• Support and advise DevCon management and stakeholders on technical aspects related to WASH project infrastructure schemes.
• Conduct field assessments and feasibility studies for WASH infrastructure projects.
• Design and prepare technical drawings, BoQs, and specifications for water supply systems, latrines, handwashing stations, drainage, etc.
• Supervise contractors and community workers during construction to ensure quality and safety.
• Ensure adherence to Sphere Standards, WHO guidelines, and other relevant technical standards.

• Regularly monitor the progress and quality of WASH construction activities.
• Prepare technical progress reports and document lessons learned.
• Collect and analyze data on WASH facilities.

• Liaise with community leaders and members to ensure participation and ownership.
• Conduct hygiene promotion sessions in collaboration with hygiene promoters.
• Provide technical training to local committees on the operation and maintenance of WASH facilities.

• Coordinate with logistics for timely procurement and delivery of materials.
• Work closely with the WASH Program Manager and other sector staff to ensure integrated programming.
• Submit timely and accurate field reports, including work progress, challenges, and technical recommendations.
• Represent DevCon at various relevant WASH forums in Karachi.
• Perform other relevant tasks as assigned by the DevCon management.    

Qualifications and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 5–7 years of relevant experience in WASH infrastructure in the humanitarian or development sector.
• Familiarity with humanitarian standards such as Sphere and WASH Cluster guidelines.

Skills and Competencies:

• Strong technical knowledge of WASH engineering.
• Ability to use Autocad or similar engineering software.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and in remote locations.
• Strong understanding of gender, protection, and inclusivity in WASH programming.
