CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3: the post holder will have contact with children and/or young people either frequently (e.g., once a week or more) or intensively (e.g., four days in one month or more or overnight) because they work country programs; or are visiting country programs; or because they are responsible for implementing the police checking/vetting process staff.

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Comms and Media Assistant will support the Director I&I in delivering high-quality advocacy, campaigns, communications, and media outputs for the Pakistan Country office program. The role includes assisting in content development, visibility material design for donor and internal reporting, and supporting coordination with media, partners, and field teams. This role will contribute to amplifying the voices of children and communities through documentation and communication support while ensuring brand and safeguarding compliance.

The role will also entail support to the Director Influencing & Impact (I&I) in activities across a range of offices, functions and members including the Humanitarian Advocacy Working Group, Climate Crisis Advocacy Working Group and the Global Policy and Advocacy Team.

The role holder is responsible for delivering strong media engagement, products and opportunities

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Role Dimensions: The role holder is expected to work closely with internal and external stakeholders, travel to program areas, ensuring effective communication, media and collaborative partnerships, and always ensuring the best interests of the children we work with.  

Communications Content Development

  • Assist in developing impact stories including case studies, photos, videos, and adapt for social media content.
  • Support development of donor-facing materials including events, key meetings, reports, briefs, and on-ground visibility assets.
  • Lead on organization of content collection and processing on content hub to global guidelines for media and comms in coordination with project teams.
  • Ensure risk, safeguarding and consent protocols are followed when collecting or using content involving children.

Media

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with media outlets in Pakistan
  • Manage media relations and maximize media opportunities, including drafting media statements and press releases for national media and supporting the Global Media Unit with products for global release.
  • Develop a strong knowledge of programmes and policies at SC Pakistan to proactively look for opportunities for media
  • Draft talking points for media interviews with SC Pakistan spokespeople
  • Support Global Media Unit and Global Communications colleagues with crisis communications when required

Social Media content design and management

  • Facilitate coordination with third party parties for donor visibility materials
  • Plan and develop content compliant with brand design and language guidelines for country office website and social media channels after approval of Country Director.

Support campaigns for country office

  • Assist the Director I&I in planning and launch of campaigns, including documentation and dissemination of campaign and outcomes internally and externally
  • Facilitate media opportunities for advocacy, including talking points and media PR

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, media, Journalism, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience in communications, media, campaigns, or nonprofit project support.
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Canva, and MS Office and managing multiple social media handles.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Urdu.
  • Willingness to travel to program areas to support content collection.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to inspire and engage with a wide range of audiences.
  • Proactive approach to conduct field missions to roll-out campaigns, collect content i.e. Case studies, photographs, video testimonials
  • Proven ability to build relationships with and influence decision-makers and policy specialists, including politicians and donors, and other key actors, locally and globally.

Additional Job Responsibilities

The job duties and responsibilities as set out above are not exhaustive and the post holder may be required to carry out additional duties within a reasonable level of their skills and experience. 

The post holder is required to undertake travel from time to time to humanitarian response areas to provide onsite real time analyses.

The post holder is required to work outside working hours in the event of emergency and for urgent assignments.
