Job Summary

Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan is looking for competent Nursing Assistant for Aga Khan Hospital – Gilgit.
To assist nurses and other healthcare professionals in delivering safe, supportive, and therapeutic care to patients with mental health conditions, while ensuring dignity, respect, and recovery-focused support (suggested: The incumbent will support the nursing and multidisciplinary team in providing compassionate, safe, and effective care to patients with mental health disorders. This role involves assisting patients with daily living activities, maintaining a therapeutic environment, and monitoring patient behavior under the supervision of registered nurses and mental health professionals).
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care & Support
- Assist patients with daily living activities (personal hygiene, meals, mobility, and rest).
- Support patients in participating in recreational and therapeutic activities.
- Provide companionship and observe patients to identify changes in behavior, mood, or risk.
- Monitor patients closely for signs of distress, agitation, or suicidal ideation.
- Assist in maintaining patient safety through routine checks and observation rounds.
- Perform handoff and carry out special assessments as directed.
- Identify early warning signs in patients and report any abnormalities to the Registered Nurse immediately.
Clinical Assistance
- Support nurses in administering basic nursing procedures as directed.
- Help monitor vital signs and report changes to the supervising nurse.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of patient care areas.
- Assist in intra- and inter-departmental patient transfers as needed.
- Support nurses in managing patients during emergencies, providing comfort measures, and assisting with CPR as instructed by the nurse.
Safety & Crisis Support
- Assist in managing challenging behaviors and crisis situations under supervision.
- Ensure patient safety in high-risk cases (e.g., suicide watch, aggression management).
- Observe and report any environmental or equipment-related safety hazards immediately.
Documentation & Reporting
- Record daily care activities and patient observations accurately.
- Report promptly to nurses any incidents, unusual behavior, or patient concerns.
- Communicate effectively with nurses and other healthcare professionals about patient needs and progress.
Professionalism & Training
- Participate in ongoing training on mental health, patient safety, and infection control.
- Adhere to hospital policies, patient rights, and ethical care practices.
- Demonstrate regular and punctual attendance.
Education, Experience & Competencies
- Diploma/Certificate in Nursing Assistant or equivalent (recognized training institute).
- Prior experience in a mental health or hospital setting preferred.
- CPR training.
- Basic knowledge of mental health conditions and patient care.
- Strong interpersonal, observational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in shifts, including nights and weekends.
- Ability to remain tactful, patient and calm in stressful situations.
- Adheres to uniform code.
- Ability to present self as caring, courteous and polite to patients, their families, and the healthcare team.
