About Us:

The Legal Aid Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to connecting vulnerable and disempowered individuals with efficient and effective legal services. One of our key programs is the Assessment of the Legal System for Religious Minorities in Pakistan. Under the scope of this program, we are working on pragmatic, data-backed interventions in Blasphemy law and its implementations which will be designed after a thorough study of the trends, causes, and perceptions of blasphemy incidents.

About the Research:

In recent times, there have been several instances of the abuse of the blasphemy law(s) that could have been avoided if we have pragmatic, planned, and data-backed interventions to tackle the sensitivities attached to blasphemy law(s). There is a plethora of research that highlights the extent of the abuse and the issues with the law, however there is a dearth of data driven researches which can reduce the number of blasphemy accusations as well as make trials more impartial. This research is divided into four stages;

  1. Gap analysis of case files and media reports on blasphemy accusations,
  2. Sentiment Analysis covering public response to incidences involving the blasphemy law,
  3. Analysis of public views on reforms in blasphemy law through public opinion poll, and,
  4. Identifying interventions through key-informant interviews to reduce frivolous accusations

These different research products will be compiled in a single comprehensive research product which will be translated in concrete policy and reform recommendations.
