Malteser International is the international humanitarian relief agency of the Sovereign Order of Malta. For over 60 years we provide relief and recovery for people during and following conflicts and disasters around the world. In over 30 countries in Africa, the Americas, Asia, and the Middle East, we support people in need – regardless of their religion, origin or political convictions.

Malteser International (MI) has been active in Pakistan since the Kashmir earthquake of 2005 and has been providing humanitarian aid after disasters and in crisis. Our aid focuses on healthcare, livelihood security and disaster risk reduction. Since 2014, our activities have targeted communities in the Swat and Peshawar regions (KPK province) and on various districts of Sindh province. MI has a country office in Islamabad. Currently, MI implementing a project “Life-saving and integrated health care and nutrition project for crisis-affected people in Pakistan” and a flood relief project in Sindh. Malteser International is planning to launch another primary health care project in Afghan Refugees villages and camps in KP province. Malteser International is looking for LHVs based at BHUs.  

Your responsabilités :

  • Assist Female Medical Officer in conducting daily OPD;
  • Provide BEmOC services at health facility;
  • Screen high risk pregnancies and refer them to THQ/DHQ as per the referral protocols;
  • Enter all relevant data of patient (s) in OPD/Delivery/PNC registers;
  • Ensure every pregnant woman in project area, receives a Clean Delivery Kit in last month of her pregnancy;
  • Ensure labour room is thoroughly clean and all required instruments to conduct a delivery are properly sterilized (if labour room exists at health facility);
  • Assist Female Medical Officer in conducting a safe and clean normal delivery as per WHO guidelines (if labour room exists at BHU);
  • Keep delivered woman under observation to avoid PPH;
  • Ensure a delivered woman initiates breast feeding within first hour of her delivery;
  • Disseminate information on importance of breast feeding, routine vaccination under EPI, care of baby’s cord, personal & new born hygiene and nutrition of a lactating woman;
  • Ensure after discharge a of a patient; female cleaner/TBA has thoroughly cleaned the labour room, washed and sterilized the instruments/equipment (if labour room exists at BHU);
  • Ensure all equipment/instruments in labour room/MCH centre are well maintained and kept;
  • Supervise & develop the capacity of TBAs through on job mentoring;
  • Refer suspected malnourished PLW and children under age of 5 years to Nutrition Assistant for screening;
  • Refer pregnant women to EPI centre to receive TT vaccination;
  • Disseminate proper information and guide patients on danger signs of pregnancy and reason for referral to a secondary/tertiary care level health facility;
  • Manage and maintain a proper record of Clean Delivery Kits distributed among pregnant women;
  • Perform routine lab tests through rapid diagnostic test kits;
  • Participate in capacity building trainings organized by Malteser International or any partner organization;
  • Attend staff meetings convened at health facility/project office;
  • Follow proper chain of command and communication lines within organization;
  • Do not leave the duty station without informing Supervisor;
  • Any other job-related task assigned by the Supervisor (s)

Your Profile :

  • Qualified LHV from a recognized and well reputed institute in Pakistan;
  • Valid registration with Pakistan Nursing Council (PNC);
  • Experience working as a LHV at least for four (04) years with an N/INGO;
  • Conduct an independent delivery, in case of an emergency;
  • A good team player;
  • Punctual/regular in duties;
  • Understands and speaks Pashto and Urdu and basic understanding of English;
  • Ability to work under difficult circumstances;
  • Honest, committed and flexible in attitude;
  • Respect and practice organizational policies/rules;
  • Familiar with local culture.

What we offer:

  • Start Date: 15th April 2023
  • Duty Station: Above mentioned locations
  • Duration of contract: 12 months (extendable 2024)
  • Salary according to qualification and experience
