The Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan (AKHS, P) is seeking an experienced General Physician to join its healthcare team.

Summary of the Role

The General Physician provides independent clinical services across Karachi Community Program units, manages patients, identifies high-risk cases, and ensures timely referrals. The role also supports Family Health Program activities, community healthcare, health education, and disease surveillance to improve access to quality healthcare and promote community health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducts regular family medicine and general medicine clinics.
  • Examines, assesses, diagnoses, and manages patients attending clinics.
  • Provides holistic, evidence-based, and cost-effective medical care.
  • Identifies high-risk cases and ensures timely and appropriate referrals.
  • Provides community-based healthcare services as required.
  • Provides emergency medical coverage when required.
  • Conducts home visits, when necessary, particularly for terminally ill, home-bound, recently discharged, and bedridden patients.
  • Participates in Family Health Program activities and community health initiatives.
  • Provides health education and counselling to patients and families.
  • Promptly reports diseases under surveillance in accordance with established protocols.
  • Maintains accurate and complete patient records, diagnoses, and treatment plans.
  • Adheres to clinical protocols, guidelines, quality standards, and organizational policies.
  • Contributes to continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Attends meetings, training sessions, and other sessions as convened by the Supervisor/Head of Department.
  • Demonstrates awareness of AKHS, P’s mission, vision, and key objectives and contributes to their implementation through teamwork.

Eligibility Criteria

  • MBBS degree from a recognized institution; FCPS/MCPS will be preferred.
  • Valid PMC license Required.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant clinical experience.
  • Strong clinical assessment, diagnosis, and patient-management skills.
  • Ability to provide holistic, patient-centred, and cost-effective care.
  • Ability and willingness to provide community-based healthcare services.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong systems orientation, accountability, and commitment to quality.
  • Proficiency in using digital tools and systems.
