Job Summary: The PHC Technician (MCH)/LHV will provide quality maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) services at the facility. The position ensures safe antenatal, delivery, postnatal, family planning, and health education services, and supports implementation of public health programs including EPI, nutrition, and reproductive health initiatives.
Aga Khan Health Service, Pakistan, is looking for a competent PHC Technician (MCH)/LHV based at RHC Shagram, Upper-Chitral in Chitral Region.
Key Responsibilities:
A. Maternal Health Services:
- Provide Antenatal Care (ANC) services including assessment, counseling, and follow-up.
- Identify high-risk pregnancies and ensure timely referral to higher-level facilities.
- Provide Postnatal Care (PNC) services and monitor mother’s recovery after delivery.
- Ensure safe and respectful maternity care in accordance with clinical protocols.
- Maintain pregnancy and delivery records in the MNCH register.
B. Normal Delivery and Emergency Obstetric Support:
- Conduct normal deliveries (where authorized and facility equipped).
- Provide immediate management of maternal complications within scope (e.g., PPH first response, shock management).
- Ensure timely referral of complicated deliveries and obstetric emergencies.
- Ensure availability and readiness of delivery room equipment and supplies.
- Assist Medical Officer in emergency obstetric care when required.
C. Newborn and Child Health Services:
- Provide essential newborn care including thermal care, breastfeeding support, and cord care.
- Monitor newborn health and identify danger signs for referral.
- Support Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) services.
- Counsel mothers on exclusive breastfeeding, complementary feeding, and child hygiene.
- Support growth monitoring and nutritional screening of children.
D. Family Planning and Reproductive Health Services:
- Provide family planning counseling and services (short-term methods and referral for long-term methods).
- Ensure informed choice, privacy, and confidentiality for clients.
- Provide counseling on birth spacing and reproductive health.
- Maintain family planning records and report service statistics.
E. Immunization and Preventive Health Support:
- Coordinate with EPI staff to ensure immunization coverage of pregnant women and children.
- Support immunization sessions by mobilization, counseling, and record maintenance.
- Provide TT vaccination counseling and support immunization tracking.
- Participate in special immunization campaigns as required.
F. Nutrition Services:
- Screen women and children for malnutrition using MUAC and growth monitoring tools.
- Provide counseling on nutrition, IYCF (Infant and Young Child Feeding), and dietary practices.
- Support micronutrient supplementation programs (iron/folate, vitamin A, deworming).
- Refer severe acute malnutrition cases to appropriate centers.
G. Infection Prevention and Control (IPC):
- Ensure adherence to IPC standards in delivery room, ANC/PNC clinic, and procedure areas.
- Ensure sterilization of instruments and safe disposal of medical waste.
- Maintain cleanliness of maternity and newborn care areas.
- Ensure safe use and disposal of sharps and contaminated items.
H. Record Keeping and Reporting:
- Maintain all relevant registers (ANC, PNC, delivery, FP, immunization support, nutrition).
- Prepare and submit monthly service delivery reports to the Facility In-Charge.
- Ensure accurate documentation of referrals, complications, and follow-up visits.
- Maintain confidentiality and safe storage of patient records.
I. Health Education and Community Mobilization:
- Conduct awareness sessions on maternal health, newborn care, breastfeeding, family planning, and hygiene.
- Support community outreach activities in coordination with LHWs and community groups.
- Promote institutional delivery and early referral for danger signs.
- Coordinate with local stakeholders for health promotion activities.
J. Coordination and Support to Facility Management:
- Work closely with Medical Officers, nurses, LHWs, vaccinators, and paramedics.
- Participate in facility meetings, trainings, and supervision visits.
- Support emergency response activities during outbreaks or disasters.
- Perform additional tasks assigned by the Facility In-Charge relevant to MNCH services.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Diploma in Lady Health Visitor (LHV) from a recognized institute with valid PNC registration.
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in maternal and child health services preferred,
- Knowledge of basic clinical procedures.
- Possesses basic clinical certifications such as BLS/ACLS.
- Results-driven, ethical and adaptable professional with a strong service and stakeholder focus.
- Strong integrity with the sensitivity to manage confidential information.
- Demonstrates superior organizational skills and the agility to multitask and assume changing strategic responsibilities in a dynamic environment.
